York Day 1

Although I’m not looking forward to taking him on, I am excited to see Baaeed run today in the Juddmonte for William and the team. He’s such a great horse and it will be great to see him step up to 1m 2 1/2 F and hopefully win again.

Pink crystal is probably my best chance on the first day of the Festival. After winning the Brighton Bullet, she’s going back in at 5f so hopefully she has a chance. Tomorrow Boosala, Lilac Road, Golden Lyra are all three really good rides. Lilac road wasn’t beaten far in the Nassau and she steps up to 1m 4f for the first time which looks ideal, so i’m really looking forward to riding her. Golden Lyra is another really exciting filly. She looks like she stays well and hopefully she can come with a big effort on the flat track.

Friday, obviously Quickthorn won really well in France on the Bastille Day last time. He has got to take on the best stayers in the world but he is a really good horse on the up and hopefully he can continue improving. Chateau looks a good ride in the Gimcrack for Andrew Balding. He didn’t have a clear run when he won at Newbury but he picked up really well, I was really impressed with him that day. Raasel lines up in the Nunthorpe against the sprinters. In the sprint races you just need a little flash of luck and thats your race made. I think the 2-year-old that Hollie is riding in the race was really impressive at Goodwood and beat the track record, so it may be a tough one to beat. Golden voice is one I hope might bounce back on Friday. He won two on the bounce at Sandown and I was a big fan of him but he went and got beat the other day at Redcar. He’s a horse I really like so hopefully he can get back to winning ways.

Saturday I’m not exactly sure what’s happening yet with the Ebor. My guess would be that if it’s fast ground, I will ride Candleford. He’s a Royal Ascot winner who got put up a lot after his victory. He didn’t run bad at Newmarket on his next start, I messed that one up. If the ground is slow I will ride Gaassee who’s obviously a previous course winner. He looked like he was really improving at a really steep rate then got beat at Haydock in a big handicap there. Hopefully with the right run round he can go close. It’s an exciting week, then I’m off to France on Sunday, so plenty going on.
