About Tom Marquand
Born in 1998 Tom grew up in the heart of British Racing territory in Cheltenham, England.
Having ridden ponies from a young age at his Auntie and Grandparents' farm, horse racing and becoming a jockey was never something Tom considered for a career path, in fact his only attachment to racing was growing up in Cheltenham!
Tom’s first taste of racing came when friends allowed him to adopt their racing ponies and compete. Tom spent a lot of time at the British Racing School and did half a season of Arab racing at the age of fifteen, in between riding out for a few different yards, before heading to Richard Hannon’s yard.
Tom's first ride came in November 2014 on the Richard Hannon aptly named 'Here For Good'. His first winner came three weeks later at Kempton on'Mecado' aged just sixteen again for Richard Hannon and the Middleham Park Racing Club, Tom picked up the Apprentice title in his first season in the saddle.
Tom’s first Group winner came at Salisbury in 2017 aboard Anna Nerium in the Group 3 Dick Poole. Oh This Is Us provided Tom with his first International win in Dubai and followed that up with the All Weather Mile Championship at Lingfield.
Over the winter of 2019/2020 Tom headed off Down Under to Australia where he rode 26 winners at a strike rate of 17%. Tom’s first major winner was Away Game in 2020 and then followed his first Group 1 winner as Addeybb won the Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill. Tom and Addeybb then went on to claim further Group 1 succes as they triumphed in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick.
