Not the Australian Adventure I had hoped for!

Sadly this isn’t the blog update I was hoping to be putting out after being in Australia for a couple of weeks! On arriving in Australia I was really fortunate to kick off to a great start with two city winners at Canterbury on Friday evening for Annabelle Neasham and then a Saturday winner at Royal Randwick board, Café Millennium for John O’Shea, sadly in the 6th race, the Inglis Millennium $2 million race I was bought down and suffered a pretty heavy fall and ended up in hospital with a fairly heavy concussion and shoulder injury.

After CT scans, they were happy that my head was okay and my shoulder wasn’t broken and I got discharged on Sunday afternoon. It was pretty evident there was something amis with my my shoulder in the days after though.

After MRI scans and going to shoulder specialist Dr Duckworth, it showed that I had dislocated my sternoclavicular joint, meaning my collarbone had to come away from my sternum. Thankfully, Dr Duckworth was fast on the job and had me straight in the next day for surgery to wire it all back together and now fortunately I’m on the mend. My current timeframe is probably looking at around 5 to 6 weeks off and I’ve been out walking every day since the op for a couple of hours to try to keep fit and active whilst I’m out of action.

The plan is to fly home on Friday as Hollie has just had to have surgery on her elbow injury and we will be going through the rehab process together. I’m hoping I’ll be back in action in plenty of time to get back to Sydney to ride on the championship days of the autumn carnival and partner up with both William Haggas is runners and also hopefully some exciting Australian horses too. We’ll keep you all updated on our progress. Hopefully it will be a smooth passage, on the comeback trail!
